IRS Tax Payment Instructions
Federal Payments – Through IRS DirectPay (No Account Set-Up Required)
- To pay your Federal Payment through IRS DirectPay click here.
- You will need your social security number, bank routing number & bank account number.
- On the next screen, click the box for “Make a Payment”.
- For IRS 2023 Balance Due payments, due on 4/15/2024- choose “Balance Due” as the reason for payment, “Income Tax – Form 1040” as what you would like to apply the payment to, and “2023” as the tax period for payment.
- For IRS 2023 Extension payments, due on 4/15/2024- choose “Extension” as the reason for payment, “4868 (for 1040, 1040A, 1040EZ)” as what you would like to apply the payment to, and “2023” as the tax period for payment.
- For IRS 2024 Estimated tax payments- choose “Estimated Tax” as the reason for payment, “1040-ES” as what you would like to apply the payment to, and “2024” as the tax period for payment.
- On the next screen, you will enter the year of your most recently filed tax return as “Tax Year for Verification”, your filing status (MFJ or MFS if married, Single or HOH if unmarried, etc.) in the field for “Filing Status”, and then enter your personal info (name, address, date of birth, etc.) for married taxpayers, use the SSN & name of the primary taxpayer (whoever is listed first on the tax return))
- Click continue and enter desired bank account information on the next screen
- Print confirmation screen and keep for your records; you can also upload a copy to the portal and we will add it to your file.
Federal Payments – Through IRS.GOV Account
- To pay your Federal Payment through your existing IRS.gov account, or to create an account, access the IRS website here and sign in (or follow the prompts to create an account).
- Once logged in to your account, on the top menu, select “Payment Options”.
- Once you open the payment options tab, you can just click the box for “Make a Payment”.
- Select your payment method (bank account through IRS website, or credit card through external website).
- For 2023 Balance Due Payments, due on 4/15/2024- choose “Pay towards a balance”, select “2023” for tax year, and enter the payment amount.
- For 2023 Extension Payments due on 4/15/2024- choose “Extension”, and enter the payment amount.
- For 2024 Estimated Tax Payments- choose “Estimated Tax”, select “2024” for tax year, and enter the payment amount.
- The payment date must be today’s date (if you want to schedule a payment for a future date, you will need to pay using IRS Direct Pay here, instructions below).
- To use today’s date as the payment date, select “Next”.
- Enter the desired bank account information and select “Next”.
- Review your Payment Information and mark the box that you would like to receive a payment confirmation email and the box that you have read the disclosures, and select “Submit” to make your payment, or “back” if you need to change any of the payment information.
- Print confirmation screen and keep for your records; you can also upload a copy to the portal and we will add to your file.
